There are different types of hair loss in women16:
Hereditary hair loss - if you experience this type of hair loss consult your dermatologist for treatment.
Stress, diet and hormone imbalance – if you experience this type of hair loss consult your doctor for treatment.
Alopeica Areata/ Auto-immune disorder - if you experience this type of hair loss consult your doctor for treatment.
40% of women have visible hair loss by the time they are age 40.8 The most common type of hair loss in women is androgenetic alopecia (AGA), also known as female pattern hair loss.21
Here are some signs that you may experience if you have hereditary hair loss13:
More hair on the pillow
More strands on your hairbrush or comb
More hair in the drain
More prominent parting
It can be distressing when your hair starts to thin. Speaking to a healthcare professional about your hair loss will help them to determine the cause of your hair loss and the most suitable treatment.
According to the British Association of Dermatologists, it’s normal to lose anywhere from 30 to 150 strands of hair per day.30Since there are on average 100,000 hair follicles on each person’s scalp16, the loss of 150 or so hair strands a day doesn’t make a big difference in appearance.
